QMill Circuit Compression is Now Available on qBraid Lab

Chicago, IL – July 16, 2026 – We are excited to welcome QMill Circuit Compression to qBraid Lab. Built by the team at QMill in Espoo, Finland, Circuit Compression is an AI-powered quantum circuit optimization service, and it is now available as a prepackaged environment to the thousands of developers, researchers, and enterprise teams building on qBraid.

What QMill Circuit Compression Brings to qBraid Lab

QMill Circuit Compression is a record-breaking method for shrinking quantum circuits while preserving their full functionality. By reformulating compression as an AI-driven optimization problem, trained on the LUMI supercomputer, the service typically delivers a 20–50% reduction in gate count and circuit depth, and has outperformed previous state-of-the-art optimizers across multiple benchmarks. Users can choose to focus on reducing 2-qubit gates, circuit depth, or total gate count.

For developers, that translates directly into results that matter on today’s hardware:

  • Faster runtimes and lower cost. Fewer gates and shallower circuits mean shorter compute time, fewer shots, and reduced cloud usage cost.
  • Better fidelity. Compressed circuits accumulate less error, improving the quality of results on real QPUs.
  • More ambitious circuits. Compression lets researchers run more complex circuits within the limits of current quantum computers.

A Prepackaged Environment, Ready to Run

We’ve worked with QMill to make getting started as frictionless as possible. Launching the compression project from qBraid Explore clones the example notebooks into your Lab workspace and installs the QMill QAS SDK environment automatically — no manual setup required. From there, developers activate the environment, authenticate with a single device-code login, and start submitting circuits:

  • Access is provided through the QMill Quantum Advantage Services (QAS) platform, with login details issued upon registration. Registration: qmill.com
  • Activate the environment: qbraid envs activate "QMill QAS SDK"
  • Authenticate once: qas auth login
  • Submit a circuit in OpenQASM and retrieve the compressed result via the SDK

QMill Circuit Compression supports a demo mode for quick experimentation as well as full HPC runs on the LUMI supercomputer and AWS Parallel Computing Service, with configurable gate sets, GPU allocation, and live progress monitoring. Example notebooks are open source and available in the QAS SDK repository.

What Our Teams Are Saying

“Circuit compression is one of the most effective ways to get more out of today's noisy hardware, and QMill's results speak for themselves. Having QMill's compression on qBraid Lab means our users can run it on their own circuits right in the workflows they already use,” said Ryan Hill, CTO at qBraid.

“We are happy that QMill Circuit compression is easily accessible for one of the most active developer communities in quantum. Our method has outperformed the previous state of the art optimizers across multiple gate sets, and it's now just a click away for qBraid Lab users. We're excited to see how the community puts it to use,” said Janne Heikkinen, Chief Product Officer at QMill.

Why It Matters

qBraid Lab brings the best tools in the ecosystem into one workspace, so developers can reach for them without leaving the environment they already work in. The QMill team has built deep expertise in quantum circuit optimization, and bringing their compression service to qBraid Lab puts it in front of a large community of developers who can put it to work. For enterprise teams evaluating quantum for real problems, compression is one of the most practical levers available today for getting more out of current hardware.
